Your prices seem too low for quality hardwood.
Is there something I should know?
Yes, you've found the best place on the internet to purchase
pre-finished quality hardwood flooring.
Huron Hardwood Floors is not a middle man. We direct the
manufacturing of our own exclusive hardwood collections and
that means higher quality at lower prices. Perhaps the most
important difference between Huron Hardwood Floors and many
other hardwood companies is that we designed our company from
the ground up for e-commerce. Our operation is highly efficient
and as a result, we avoid the high overhead expenses unavoidable
by large retail outlets.
How does your hardwood compare to the hardwood
I can find locally?
One of the reasons that we spend thousands of dollars every
year to send our free hardwood samples is that we know how
important it is for you to see our hardwood. There is a substantial
difference between hardwood flooring in both initial wood
quality and the way that hardwood is finished. Our Canadian
location places us at the junction of the best hardwood forests
in the world. We invite your scrutiny because we know that
once you see the quality of our pre-finished flooring, you'll
understand that Huron Hardwood Flooring is the absolute best
combination of quality and value on the internet.
Why should I buy from Canada?
90% of our business comes from satisfied customers across
the United States. There are four key reasons why America
residents buy from Huron.
1. The exchange rate between the Canadian and American dollar
makes buying from Canada highly
attractive.
2. As a result of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement)
U.S. resident do not pay
duty on hardwood purchased from Canada.
3. Canadian hardwood is regarded by many as the highest quality
hardwood in the world. Our
hardwood forests are extensive
and the world class hardiness, grain and color of our many
hardwood species make for superior hardwood flooring.
4. Huron Hardwood Floors does not collect state taxes.
5. Our helpful and knowledgeable staff are dedicated to making
your hardwood flooring purchase simple and easy. Our clients
like dealing with us because we're fair and friendly. No surprises, just good old fashioned customer service.
Your hardwood samples are beautiful but they
don't seem to fit together. Is that a reflection of your quality?
Quite the opposite. Your free sample package may contain
a variety of different wood species. We have exacting and
unique milling specifications for each type of wood. Maple
tongue-and-grove may not fit properly with Ash. Oak may not
fit snuggly with Mahogany. Of course, it's unlikely you will
be creating a floor from different varieties of wood. Regardless
of the color, species and width of the pre-finished hardwood
you order, your Huron Hardwood floor will fit together perfectly.
Your samples don't have tongue and groove at the ends. Does
this mean that your planks are not four sided tongue and groove?
The samples we send out are cut from actual planks. As a
result, your samples may not have tongue and groove on all
four sides. When you order hardwood from Huron, your shipment
will contain quality hardwood planks with tongue and groove
on all four sides.
Best Practices for Cleaning and Maintenance
As with any wood floor, follow a program of cleaning, sweeping
and vacuuming to eliminate as much dirt and grit as possible,
and remember that moisture should not come in contact with the
floor. If it does, it should be wiped up immediately.
The use of mats to trap dirt at all exterior doors will help
lesson the amount of dirt, sand and grit coming in contact
with your floors. Use rugs at high traffic stations to reduce
wear.
Always use manufacturers' recommended cleaning products,
which won't leave a contaminating residue on the floor. Do
not use oils, soaps, or wax products to clean your floor.
Most warranties from finish manufacturers and factory-finished
wood flooring manufacturers are voided by use of oil soap
cleaners.
Wipe up spills immediately with a lightly dampened cloth
and follow up with a recommended cleaning product.
For stubborn stains, lightly dampen a soft cloth with a manufacturer's
recommended cleaner or a generic hardwood floor cleaner. Apply
directly to the stain and repeat as necessary. Never mop your
floor with water.
Keep your pet's nails clipped to reduce scratching of the
floor. Use protective pads underneath all furniture legs that
come in contact with the hardwood floor. Remove shoes with
spikes or damaged heels before walking on the floor.

Why is waxed paper used?
There are several reasons for the use of the builders waxed
paper. This does create a minor moisture barrier between your
sub floor, made of soft wood, and your new hardwood. Installation
becomes easier as you are not forcing wood on wood. Waxed
paper will help in reducing squeaks.
What are the causes of floors squeaking?
Squeaks are normally caused when the sub floor is not properly
screwed in place using ring-shank-screws or more commonly
known as deck screws. If you ensure your sub-floor
is properly fastened you should be able to eliminate squeaks.
Which trims do I use and when do I use them?
There are so many different trim pieces available.
Here is a list of the most common trims available from the
various major manufactures and where you would use them.
- Floortransitions
- T-molding: The t-molding is used
in transition areas where the two flooringtypes are of similar
height. The two flooring type must be "hardsurface",
do not use to transition from hard floors to carpet. The
t-molding covers the edge of each floor allowing for a fairly
smooth transition.
- Reducer: a reducer does just what
it says. It is used in doorways or transitions and reduces
from the new floor down to floor that are lower. A typical
example would be transitioning down from a new laminate
flooring or hardwood flooring to a vinyl floor.
- Stair nose(overlap): This transition
is used on stairs and covers the edge of the step. It sets
right over the floor. Stair nose (flush mount): This transition
is used on stairs and will have a groove that matches the
floor.
What is acclamation?
Your new hardwood flooring needs to acclimate to the new
environment, meaning your home. We dry the wood to within
6 to 9% moisture content. When the wood lands at you site
it is going to want to expand to the new climate. If you allow
7 days you will have the best practice and methods for installation.
